Day 5: Master Bedroom and Bathroom

Before

We have not changed a whole lot about the master bedroom and bathroom.  The layout had to stay very similar to what the previous owners had because of the location of the air vent. We loved the vaulted ceiling and the large layout of the bathroom.  We did not change the paint color because it is a pretty neutral beige, but maybe with a hint of purple in it.

After

We have changed the bedroom twice though.  At first we were using a beautiful queen-size bed that Bradley has had for years.  The only problem was that in the years before I came along, he slept in the middle of the bed, making a dip in the center.  We had trouble not rolling into the dip at night.  So this past Christmas we used the cash gifts we received from grandparents and parents to buy a new king-size bed.  I found a cool Pottery Barn leather sleigh headboard on Craigslist for $100!  We have so much room now!

The only thing that I am unsatisfied about is the placement of our tv.  We had planned to use the center cabinet of Bradley’s entertainment center to hide the tv, but it would not fit through the door.  So we are using a tv stand that we used at the apartment that does not match any of our furniture.  Plus, the first thing you see when you walk through the door is the side of this huge tube tv and cords of glory!  We hope to one day exchange the tv for a flat screen that we can hang on the wall above the tall dresser and just get rid of the tv stand altogether.  Someday…

The bathroom is the same color as the bedroom, and we were happy to find a double vanity.  We hope to one day replace the vanity with double sinks.  There is not a separate tub and shower, but the tub/shower is huge. I love also having a linen closet in the bathroom.  We replaced the light fixture above the tub/ toilet area with a three-light track light that we could angle to get better lighting in the shower.  The only other things that have really changed in the bathroom are the shower curtain, window curtain, towels and mats as well as adding a hand towel ring.  I also exchanged the bulbs for compact fluorescent.

Wish List:  Replace tv and get rid of tv stand, paint bedroom and bathroom, replace vanity with double sink and updated fixtures/cabinets/countertop, replace vanity lighting, replace linoleum floors, replace the shower liner with tile, and change out tub faucet.

I think Habitual Rearranger fits me well because I am never settled on designs, colors, or placement of items in our home. I drive Bradley crazy sometimes, but I keep figuring out new and better ways of doing things! I am not striving to be profound or an expert on anything in this blog. It is simply a way to keep a record of all of my adventures - home and life - for me to reference and also for my loved ones to follow along. I am a born and raised Georgia girl. I don't think I would enjoy living anywhere except the south. Bradley and I spent six and a half years in our starter home and are now in our forever home, a 1970s traditional two story brick house. I love getting into all kinds of projects around our house, and I try to document all the dirty details here if for no one else than for me.
