Weekend Project: Staging the Bookshelves

Just like anyone who has bookshelves, over time we have been adding and adding things to the shelves, but not taking stock of what we actually had on them and how it looked.  So I removed everything from the bookshelves on either side of the television in the living room and thought about each item before deciding if it should return to the shelves or not.

I had been wanting some way to lighten up the shelves because of the dark wood.  My initial thought had been to use paper or fabric on the back of the cabinets, but have never found something I liked.  Then I remembered four large matted frames I had picked up on clearance at Target months ago that were still hiding under our bed because I had not come up with a use for them yet.  So I put some matching scrapbook paper in the frames and popped them in the back of the top four shelves.  I really like how the white mattes make the shelves happier.  I also painted the base of my small lamp white, and now I just need to figure out something cool to do with the shade I got to go on it since it is too small, but for $1.49 I can’t complain too much.

I think Habitual Rearranger fits me well because I am never settled on designs, colors, or placement of items in our home. I drive Bradley crazy sometimes, but I keep figuring out new and better ways of doing things! I am not striving to be profound or an expert on anything in this blog. It is simply a way to keep a record of all of my adventures - home and life - for me to reference and also for my loved ones to follow along. I am a born and raised Georgia girl. I don't think I would enjoy living anywhere except the south. Bradley and I spent six and a half years in our starter home and are now in our forever home, a 1970s traditional two story brick house. I love getting into all kinds of projects around our house, and I try to document all the dirty details here if for no one else than for me.
