Weekend Project: Organizing an awkward Closet

Oddly enough, we have two closets that sit side-by-side on the main level at our house.  Some of the houses in our neighborhood have basements, but the builders used the same 4 or 5 patterns when building, so those of us without a basement got an extra large closet that would have otherwise been the stairs leading to the basement.

Up until now, it has been a lot of wasted vertical space, because there was only one little shelf on the wall, so I had a lot of stuff just stacked on the floor.  I finally got around to measuring the closet and went to Home Depot to find some sort of shelving system that would work.  I ended up finding one that was the perfect width and about half the depth of the closet, so I could keep in place my hanging shoe bag that is my equivalent of a junk drawer and still keep the vacuum and steam mop parked in the front of the closet.  You may not be able to tell from the picture (I had the camera backed up as far as I could go in front of the closet), but that shelf is 36″ wide and 24″ deep.  I don’t really need all the shelf space that’s in there now, since I try not to keep too much unnecessary stuff around, but how I love getting everything up off the floor!

P.S.   I will share a post really soon about what we use those red pillows for.

I think Habitual Rearranger fits me well because I am never settled on designs, colors, or placement of items in our home. I drive Bradley crazy sometimes, but I keep figuring out new and better ways of doing things! I am not striving to be profound or an expert on anything in this blog. It is simply a way to keep a record of all of my adventures - home and life - for me to reference and also for my loved ones to follow along. I am a born and raised Georgia girl. I don't think I would enjoy living anywhere except the south. Bradley and I spent six and a half years in our starter home and are now in our forever home, a 1970s traditional two story brick house. I love getting into all kinds of projects around our house, and I try to document all the dirty details here if for no one else than for me.
