Weekend Project – Dwarf Shrubs

On Friday, I posted a vague reference about a project I would be working on Saturday.  Because of a late start, I ended up finishing the project this morning.  The newspaper cutouts were to help me figure out spacing.  Now I am showcasing the full extent of my dorkiness.

I am finally installing some dwarfs in the front shrubbery bed to give it a more filled-in, layered look.  I needed to see how the shrubs would look at mature size so I wouldn’t plant them too close to one another or the established bushes since they are still smaller than they will be.  My mom says that fall is the best time to plant shrubs, so I have been itching to do this since we planted the Thujas last fall.

These are Golden Nugget Dwarf Japanese Barberry.  They are full sun and a mature size of 12″ T and 18″ W.

I had to transplant five perennials so that things wouldn’t look too crowded.  Hopefully they will survive the trip to their new homes.  I still need at least one more (I bought all that they had at Pike’s), but it is mostly done.  I can’t wait for them to fill in!

I think Habitual Rearranger fits me well because I am never settled on designs, colors, or placement of items in our home. I drive Bradley crazy sometimes, but I keep figuring out new and better ways of doing things! I am not striving to be profound or an expert on anything in this blog. It is simply a way to keep a record of all of my adventures - home and life - for me to reference and also for my loved ones to follow along. I am a born and raised Georgia girl. I don't think I would enjoy living anywhere except the south. Bradley and I spent six and a half years in our starter home and are now in our forever home, a 1970s traditional two story brick house. I love getting into all kinds of projects around our house, and I try to document all the dirty details here if for no one else than for me.
