New House Progress

We have had the new house since Sunday evening.  Already, so much has been done.  Bradley took the week off, and my mom came up Monday and Tuesday.  She and I were finally able to get the awful “bears in the forest” border down in the second bathroom.  She got the living room, kitchen, dining room, 2 spare bedrooms (the cheery blue is my office!), laundry room, 1/2 bath, and 2nd bathroom painted.  She is a machine!

Bradley’s parents have also been coming over in the evenings to help out.  His mom has been shampooing all or our carpets! Everything is looking wonderful.  He and his dad put up crown molding in the dining room and have fixed many “minor things” around the house.  Thankfully, his dad is super handy and we played musical light fixtures.  I think the only ones that we did not swap or change out were the living room and kitchen!

My dad also came up last night, and all “the guys” were moving furniture today.  I can’t wait to see what everything looks like when I get home today.  There will still be a load or two of boxed stuff to move from the apartment, but Bradley and I can do that tomorrow!  Thankfully, we are able to take our time with the move, because we have the apartment through the end of the month.  It is awesome that we were able to get the painting and cleaning done before there was any furniture to work around!

We’re in the New House!

We got the house on Sunday afternoon. My mom came up on Monday morning and she and Bradley got started on painting. As of last night, the living room, kitchen and most of the dining room were done. I wish I could be there during the day to help, but I don’t have time off. It is exciting to go home after work to see what all has been finished.

Closing on our very first house!

An accepted offer. A good inspection. No termites. We are ready to close on our very first house. Our closing date is June 29 and we get the house on July 2. We are so excited about this house, and I have already put together a mile long “honey do” list!

Here are some ‘before’ pictures:

A New House (Take Two)

We are finally through with the house we originally made an offer on.  The owner was unwilling to fix everything (which is what we ultimately hoped for), so we were able to make a clean break and get our earnest money back. Our real estate agent has been working so hard to show us every house that we might possibly be interested in and we found a new “keeper” on Sunday. We made an offer and are just waiting on all of the counters to settle to see if we will be getting this one inspected.

I am really excited about this house, because we like the neighborhood and it has some really great features that some of the other houses we have looked at did not have. I am trying to keep myself from getting too attached to this house though, just in case it too comes back with an unacceptable inspection. There are plenty of things we can live with, but bad foundations and shotty roofs will just not do! (Luckily, this one has a roof that is only 1 1/2 years old!) So I will do my best to keep everyone updated on how this house works out, and hopefully, we will be sitting in closing on July 2!

A New House

Bradley and I went with our real estate agent a few Saturdays ago to look at more houses. Well, we fell in love with one of them and put an offer in immediately. It is a great ranch in Acworth with large living areas and the biggest master suite we have seen to date in our price range. It has new carpet and appliances and seemed all around great for the price. After a few counters, we settled on a price and terms. All that was left was the inspection.

The inspection was on Friday and we are not as excited about this house anymore. The roof is about shot, the air conditioning needs servicing, there are some rotted windows and a broken truss in the attic which also is improperly insulated. At this point we have sent the report on to our real estate agent and I suppose the homeowners will be given a chance to repair whatever we ask for, but I am not holding my breath that they will be too willing. I know there is another offer on the home if ours falls through, so the owners may hope that the other buyers will not ask for all of the repairs, but we can not take on these kinds of problems in a house. There is no room in the budget for a new roof!

So hopefully we will know soon if everything will work out on this house, but I have a feeling that we will soon start up our search for the perfect home again!
